Matt Arbuckle

Matt’s pigment-soaked abstractions operate in a border zone between randomness and control. Their streaks, stains and washes of colour reflect a process where paint is allowed to seep throughout the fabric of the work. The works suggest landscape themes, with horizontal bands of colour stacked on top of each other like layers of clouds or geographical strata. He describes his work in terms of narrative, specifically the recalling or reframing of memories. Each piece requires an intense amount of time, and the result is a selection of striking colourful and tactile works on woven knitted polyester voile.
